SCENE ONE

 
RENEE - Actually, I was hoping you'd let a strange woman in yours.

SCENE TWO

 
RENEE - Army life was okay, as long as you liked traveling.

SCENE THREE

 
RENEE - Listen, you're a civilian, when we get in there you let me go in-- [The last word dies in her throat as she turns to find MacLeod is gone.] --first.

[She turns and runs for the side door.]

 

EXT. DOJO – NIGHT – MacLEOD'S CAR

[MacLeod gets in, and it pulls away into the night.]

[A beat later, Renee slips from the dojo. She sees his car going, quickly jumps into her own sedan to follow him -- but it won't start. She jumps out and lifts the hood--]

RENEE - Dammit, MacLeod! [She slams the hood in frustration.]

SCENE FOUR

 
HORTON - How can you eat at a time like this?

XAVIER - When better? This is golden caviar. Persian kings fought for a taste of it.

SCENE FIVE

 
MacLEOD - There's an account at the bank. It should cover the construction.

CHARLIE - As soon as I get out of here.

SCENE SIX

 
CHARLIE - After all this. You're gonna let some bureaucratic need-to-know bullcrap get in the way. [beat] It's gotta be you're under some kind of orders . . . [beat] Right?

MacLEOD - You're a smart guy, Charlie.

CHARLIE - [not giving up] What was it, a new kind of body armor? Kevlar? Ceramics? What?

SCENE SEVEN

 
CHARLIE - MacLeod. [beat] You don't come back . . . I'm gonna be pissed.

SCENE NINE

 
[He grabs his bag and gets out. She follows after him.]

 

EXT. CANAL – DAY – CONTINUOUS

[MacLeod turns toward the barge. As she moves after him, he stops for a moment and just stares at it. Something in his face speaks volumes.]

RENEE - Lots of memories.

[MacLeod nods. She sees his face, knows well enough to leave this one alone.]

RENEE - Timing . . .

SCENE TEN

 
CATHERINE - C'est cher, mais c'est beau.

Translations: C'est cher - It is dear; mais c'est beau - but it is beautiful

MacLEOD - [still offscreen] Not for an old friend.

SCENE ELEVEN

 
CATHERINE - Yes, but I didn't think-- [beat]

SCENE TWELVE

 
[MacLeod doesn't answer. He picks up the bouquet of flowers.]

MacLEOD - Where is Anton's grave?

SCENE THIRTEEN

 
RENEE - [suspicious] There's more to it, isn't there?

MacLEOD - This isn't a poker game, Renee. Take it or leave it.

RENEE - [grudgingly] I'll take it, but under protest.

SCENE FOURTEEN

 
[The camera pans the small crowd of people approaching. In the back of the crowd, almost hidden from view, the camera finds a cane. It moves up the cane to find Joe Dawson . . . Watching.]

SCENE FIFTEEN

 
MacLEOD - [stops a moment, digesting this] Where would he ride, if it wasn't here?

CAPTAIN - I don't know.

MacLEOD - Thanks for your help.

[MacLeod starts to move off. The Captain calls after him.]

CAPTAIN - If Bergon finds out you're looking for him, he'll come looking for you.

MacLEOD - I hope so.

SCENE SIXTEEN

 
MAURICE - It seems like forever.

SCENE SEVENTEEN

 
[Renee throws MacLeod a questioning look regarding Maurice.]

MacLEOD - Don't even ask.

[MacLeod reaches for a melon. Maurice reacts with some shock.]

MAURICE - Don't . . . [taking it from him] You're lucky I'm here. This is no melon. This is a potato. [reaching for another] This is a melon. [smelling it] Such flavor . . . such bouquet . . . such . . .

MacLEOD - It's a melon, Maurice.

MAURICE - To you, maybe, but to me who was once a chef at Pyramide under the great Fernand Point, it is a symphony of delight.

MacLEOD - Go do something, Maurice.

MAURICE - But I was going to help you shop.

MacLEOD - Go buy some wine for the cellar.

MAURICE - Ah! But with what?

SCENE EIGHTEEN

 
HORTON - [with an edge] We're planning the raid.

XAVIER - [continues] You're in the Caspian Sea. The sun is shining. A two thousand pound beluga sturgeon is yielding her life to offer a delicacy that melts like butter on the tongue. It's poetry.

HORTON - Enough. This is about MacLeod. You still want his head, don't you?

SCENE NINETEEN

 
RENEE - [to herself] It's not me I'm worried about.
 

BACK to transcript.

 

SCENE TWENTY

 
MAURICE - [sadly] But the owners didn't always agree with some of my habits. . . .

SCENE TWENTY-ONE

 
MAURICE - Very rare. Only for the Shah and the Ayatollah. It would have to be smuggled goods. Completely illegal to sell.

MacLEOD - But sold.

MAURICE - Only by a handful of unscrupulous merchants. [beat] Who'd never talk to a stranger.

MacLEOD - How about to a famous chef?

SCENE TWENTY-TWO

 
MacLEOD - It's outside. [beat] Live . . . and it's yours.

[MacLeod moves into the room, eyes tracking every corner.]

XAVIER - I intend to.
