TEASER

Cass - [voice-over] Previously on Highlander...

[Super: Previously on Highlander]

Flashback - The Bronze Age

[Four masked riders appear at top of a sand dune. Nomad collecting firewood runs away as the Horsemen ride toward him.]

Kronos - [voice-over] Once we rode out of the sun, bringing death on the point of a sword. There was no man and no Immortal who could stand before us.

[The nomad is killed by Kronos. The Horsemen charge into the nomads' encampment.]

Kronos - [voice-over] We were death on horseback.

Joe's Bar

Joe - The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse? Like in the Bible?

DM - The Horsemen were Immortals.

Flashback - The Bronze Age

[Kronos removes his mask.]

DM - [voice-over] One of them was called Kronos.

Joe's Bar

Joe - Sounds like something out of the Dark Ages.

Cass - Bronze, actually.

Flashback - The Bronze Age

Cass - No! [Kronos stabs her.]

Joe's Bar

Cass - I know, I was there.

Parking lot, night

Kronos - [voice-over] Methos, the world's oldest man.

[Knife is thrown at Methos' chest. Methos falls back against side of vehicle with a gasp.]

Kronos - Greetings, brother.

Methos - Kronos.

Abandoned power plant

Methos - Don't you understand? I'm not like that anymore. I've changed.

Kronos - But inside, you're still there, Methos. You're like me.

Dojo

Cass - Draw your sword.

Methos - You don't know me.

Flashback - The Bronze Age - Horsemen's camp

Methos - [removes his mask, strokes his hand up her leg] I am Methos. You live to serve me. Never forget that.

Dojo

DM - Cassandra, he's my friend.

Cass - Your "friend" rode with Kronos, killed and raped alongside him! He WAS one of the Horsemen.

Parking lot

Methos - I killed a thousand. I killed ten thousand!

Flashback - The Bronze Age - Horsemen's camp

[Methos, masked & on horseback, during the slaughter of Cassandra's tribe.]

Methos - [voice-over] And I was good at it.

Parking lot

DM - We're through.

Abandoned power plant

[DM & Kronos are fighting. Methos throws molotov cocktail, separating the two Immortals.]

Bridge

Cass - You should have killed me when you had the chance.

[Methos throws Cassandra into the river.]

Loft above dojo

Cass - It will never be over until they're both dead.

Abandoned power plant, night

Methos - Welcome back, brother.

DM - [voice-over] Then we'll find them.

Establishing shot: Mountains 1

[Super: THE UKRAINE]

[Camera pans from mountain to valley, stops at foothill of next mountain.]

The Ukraine2

[Kronos and Methos are riding horses through a woods.]

<Methos - I've been spending too much time in cities.

Kronos - Two days on an aeroplane, and another two on a horse. I hope you're not wasting my time.

Methos - I thought you enjoyed my company.

Kronos - Even for you, Methos, my patience has limits.> 1 CUT

Methos - Ah, this is the place. I'm telling you, Kronos, he's here. Would I lie to you?

Kronos - Have you ever done anything else? This is what I've dreamt of every night for the last two thousand years. The four of us reunited.

Methos - Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "dream team".

Kronos - Ah, it'll be like the old days. Better! Whatever we want, we have.

Methos - Or else we take.

Kronos - That's the spirit. [They stop their horses at the sound of an axe chopping wood.] It's Silas.

Methos - It's been over a thousand years. He may not remember us.

Kronos - He'll remember. What we were, you don't forget.

Methos - And if he doesn't want to come with us?

Kronos - He'll come. CUT [They start forward again.]

[Silas senses 'buzz', sees Kronos & Methos leading their horses toward him. He growls, throws axe at tree between them, then begins laughing.]

Kronos - I guess he remembers.

Silas - Brothers! [laughs, picks Methos up in a bear hug]

Methos - Oh! Good to see you, too, Silas.

Silas - We ride?

Methos - We ride.

[Kronos holds out his hand. Silas immediately clasps his hand on top of Kronos', and Methos slowly raises his fist underneath.]

Kronos - Come. We have much to do.

[They lower their hands and walk off together, leading the horses.] 2

[Voice-over by Joe Dawson]
He is Duncan MacLeod... the Highlander. Born in 1592 in the Highlands of Scotland, and he is still alive. He is Immortal. For four hundred years, he's been a warrior... a lover... a wanderer. Constantly facing other Immortals in combat to the death. The winner takes his enemy's head, and with it, his power. I am a Watcher -- part of a secret society of men and women who observe and record... but never interfere. We know the truth about Immortals. In the end, there can be only one. May it be Duncan MacLeod... the Highlander.

OPENING CREDITS

ACT ONE

Loft above dojo 3

Joe - [sighs] You really think the other Horsemen are still alive?

DM - Well, Methos and Kronos are, under different names, different lives.

Cass - This is pointless. We're just wasting time. We may as well go find Kronos.

DM - Oh, yeah? Starting where? If they're alive, that's where he'll be going.

Joe - All right. I've narrowed this search down to white male Immortals that we don't have First Death information on, and we got a hell of a lot of files.

DM - Yeah, well, try narrowing it down by first name. Look for something similar to what they were using back then, Silas and Caspian.

Joe - [scoffs] You're reaching.

DM - Look, just do it, okay? It's worth a shot.

Joe - [looks down at laptop] 3 Okay. [types into laptop computer, pulls up a file] "Andrew Kaspis." [Cassandra looks at computer, shakes her head.] "Cassius Polonius." [Cassandra smiles, shakes her head.] "Evan Casparri."

Cass - That's him. That's Caspian.

Joe - [types some more, pulls up another small window of information] He's in Romania, just outside Bucharest. He's in an asylum for the criminally insane. You take care, my friend.

Establishing shot: Asylum 4

[Super: BUCHAREST, ROMANIA]

Bucharest, Romania - asylum 5

Doctor - This is a highly irregular request. It will take weeks, perhaps months.

Methos - Well, we'd like him now.

Doctor - We have procedures, gentlemen. Patience is a virtue. I'm afraid my hands are tied.

Kronos - Then perhaps this could help you to intie them. [tosses envelope of cash on table] Twenty-five thousand dollars, U.S. [Methos and Silas watch quietly from nearby.] Now it seems to me, doctor, that you have a procedural choice to make: Forget your impeccable paperwork, hm? I give you twenty-five thousand dollars, and you give me Casparri. Or you keep Casparri and you lose everything. CUT

[Silas plays a wooden recorder while Methos watches Kronos and Doctor. Doctor looks inside envelope. 4 He raises his eyebrows, puts envelope in his jacket pocket. Silas stops playing recorder.]

Doctor - This way, gentlemen. [leads them out of office]

[Camera cuts to wide shot of shadowy, blue-lit corridor.] 5

Doctor - [enters corridor with Horsemen] What are you going to do with Casparri?

Kronos - Rehabilitate him.

Doctor - [laughs] You're serious? You can't be serious.

Methos - Why? What did he do?

Doctor - Nobody knows how many people he killed. They found parts in his basement, in his garden, in his freezer.

Silas - So why don't they execute him?

Doctor - Oh, in a less progressive age, a man like him would have been. But today, we are more humane. [turns down side corridor. The horsemen follow him.]

Inmate - He's here! The dark man is here! It's you!

Doctor - Pay no attention. He's harmless. He's been saying that for thirty years.

Kronos - One day he may be right.

Doctor - And one day Romania will be a superpower.

[Silas pats the inmate on the back as he walks by. Doctor leads them down metal stairs to lower level.] 6

Doctor - [reaches bottom of stairs] I don't know what you want him for, but believe me, this one is better off dead.

[The Immortals all sense the 'buzz'.]

Methos - [re dank surroundings] Very humane.

Kronos - Open the door.

[Doctor unlocks cell door. Kronos enters, followed by the others. Caspian recognizes Kronos, throws his head back in a laugh.]

Doctor - Are you sure you wouldn't like to consider another candidate?

Kronos - Unchain him.

Doctor - I think we should call security.

[Kronos pulls out sword, breaks Caspian's chains. Caspian grabs Doctor by the throat.]

Doctor - [choking] Get him... Get him off me...

<Kronos - CUT Why?>

[Doctor chokes, dies. Methos moves to a corner of the cell. Kronos grins at Caspian.]

Caspian - [finishes strangling Doctor] Stop! [picks up a roach that Methos was about to step on] They are better alive. [eats roach]

Methos - Bon appetit.

Kronos - Come, Caspian. I have bigger game for you outside.

[Methos is the last to leave the cell. He drops a matchbook on the floor before leaving.] 7

[Camera cuts back to wide shot of shadowy, blue-lit corridor.] 8 (This is not in the DVD version.)

Establishing shot: Submarine base 6

[Super: ABANDONED SUBMARINE BASE / BORDEAUX, FRANCE]

Bordeaux, France - abandoned submarine base 6

Silas - Methos! [laughs] Hey, Methos! [laughs] What the hell is this place?

<Methos - This is Kronos' idea of Camelot.> CUT

Silas - So... where are the stables, hmm? The horses? [Methos shakes his head.] Well, how do we ride?

Caspian - Where have you been for the last two thousand years, idiot? [Silas leans back in his chair.] Living in the woods. And now you think we can just mount up and gallop down Broadway?

Silas - We can do whatever we please.

Caspian - Right. 9 Four guys on horseback in wild masks -- they'll think we're in a circus.

Silas - They won't think it for long, will they?

<Caspian - [re caged rat] We're having a friend for dinner. Tell me what's best with rodent -- red or white?

Silas - Eat him, and I eat you.> CUT

Caspian - You're crazy. You should have been in the madhouse instead of me.

<Silas - CUT Keep talking. [grabs his axe] {But never again!}> [Caspian raises his sword in response.]

Kronos - Put them down! Do it now! [They drop their weapons.] We never raise a blade against each other, isn't that right, Methos?

Methos - You said it.

CUT

Kronos - We are the Four Horsemen. No band of men has ever been more cruel or more feared. [holds out his arm] Remember that? CUT <[The others join the circle, clasping wrists.]>

Establishing shot: Asylum 4

Romanian asylum 5

DM - When did Casparri escape?

Nurse - Sometime last night. We found the doctor this morning.

Cass - Let's go.

DM - Uh, no. Did he have any visitors yesterday?

Nurse - [looks at patient file] No. There's nothing on his chart.

Man - Excuse us, doctor.

Nurse - [sets file down] Excuse me. I must give my statement to the police now.

DM - [looks at file briefly] Come on.

Nurse - [down the hall, talking to police] As I told you, I was busy with a patient.

Cass - Kronos and Methos already have him. I don't know why we're wasting time in this hellhole.

DM - [finds matchbook in Caspian's cell] This is why. "Hotel de Seze, Bordeaux." Methos must have left it.

Cass - The question is, what for?

DM - You think he's setting us up.

Cass - Ha! Don't you?

DM - Maybe.

Cass - But we're going anyway?

DM - It's the only place we've been invited.

Kronos' hideout 6

Kronos - Silas, my brother, why would we ride with sword and axe when today there are weapons of unimaginable power?

Methos - Weapons ready to plunge the Earth into generations of darkness.

Kronos - If we choose. What more could we ask for? What better time for us to come together than in the scientific age? Just think of what men like us can do. Men without conscience, without fear. Think of the destruction. The devastation. The death. A world of anarchy and madness. Now you think of that... and dream. [He leads them into a lab containing cages of monkeys.] The weapons of today are different, but it all comes down to the same thing. There are the conquerors, and there are the conquered.

Caspian - You want to conquer the world with monkeys?

Kronos - Not with them. [punches buttons on a keypad and a door opens] <With this. CUT The glorious virus. Aids... Ebola... and now mine. It doesn't have a name... and it doesn't have a cure.> Tell me, Caspian, were you in England when the plague struck? [Caspian smiles.] I was.

Caspian - You have a plan?

Kronos - I have a few thoughts. I have a few dollars. Enough for a start. And now we have Methos, now we'll have a plan.

Methos - What did you have in mind?

Kronos - Once we rode out of the sun, bringing death at the point of a sword. There was no man and no Immortal who could stand before us. We were death on horseback. They called us the end of the world. [lifts vial out of container, holds it up] Well, gentlemen... I want to give them what they fear most: the Apocalypse.

[Monkeys screech.]

CUT

Establishing shot: Hotel de Seze 7

[Super: HOTEL DE SEZ, BORDEAUX]

Bordeaux - Hotel de Seze lobby 7

DM - No messages, no reservations, nothing.

Cass - Dead end.

DM - He left that clue. He'll get in touch.

Cass - He's done nothing but lie to you. That's all he ever does.

CUT

Kronos' hideout 6

Kronos - A bomb with the virus in a fountain. How many do you think that will kill? You've gone soft, Methos.

Caspian - [sarcastically] I'm scared. [to Silas] Are you scared?

Methos - It's a prelude. Have you read Aristotles Poetics? No, of course not. You haven't even seen Casablanca. What is the first rule of great drama? Start small and build. A fountain to get their attention. Then... a public pool to kill a hundred. Then a stadium to kill ten thousand. Then one drop of the virus in the city's water supply... within a week--

<Kronos - CUT And then a country.>

Methos - You want to own the world? You offer them a choice: the Horsemen rule, or they all die.

Kronos - "The Horsemen rule or the world dies." Has a nice ring to it. I forgot how good you were, Methos. We begin tonight.

Hotel room balcony 7

Cass - He's not your friend. He's no one's friend. He's putting the Horsemen back together. You have no idea what that means.

DM - But it's Kronos who's behind this. Let me deal with him, then we'll worry about the rest.

Cass - Kill Kronos, you cut out the heart of the Horsemen. Kill Methos, take the head. They both have to die.

DM - Even if you get your revenge, the memories won't end. Killing can't erase what happened, only living can do that.

Cass - Nothing can do that. Nothing.

CUT

ACT TWO

Establishing shot: Submarine base 6

Kronos' hideout 6

Silas - [laughs, playing with Kronos' monkeys. Methos walks in.] Methos, you look troubled.

Methos - Just thinking.

Silas - Ah, you were always good at that, eh? Glad after all these years, you still are. [laughs]

Methos - Me, too.

Silas - Not like the old days, is it?

Methos - What do you mean?

Silas - CUT I don't like this killing from a distance. I like to feel my axe in my hands. Look into my enemies' eyes before I strike.

Methos - Soon enough.

Silas - You don't think the virus will work.

Methos - It will work. CUT Silas, for two thousand years, we have lived without this. We have lived without the blood, the fear, the -- the power.

Silas - And for two thousand years, I've dreamed of the day when we would ride again! Like you always said, Methos -- we live, we grow stronger, and then we fight.

Methos - [gives Silas a searching look] I'll see you later.

Silas - Do you think he'll let me have one?

Methos - What?

Silas - Monkey. I like this one.

Methos - I'll ask him.

Silas - Thank you, brother.

Hotel room 7

Cass - Will you kill him, Duncan? CAN you kill him?

DM - If I have to.

Cass - You will.

DM - Did it ever occur to you that maybe he's trying to help us?

Cass - No.

[Telephone rings.]

DM - [into phone] Hello.

Methos - [into phone] Elysium church. Thirty minutes. Come alone. [hangs up]6

DM - [into phone] I'll be right down. [hangs up]

Cass - Was that him?

DM - No. Something wrong with my credit card. I'll be right back.

Establishing shot: church, evening 8

Elysium Church, evening 9

DM - Well, I'm here.

Methos - Yeah, thanks.

DM - Why'd you lie to me?

Methos - About what?

DM - About Cassandra. About who you were.

Methos - I have been many things, MacLeod.

DM - And who are you now?

Methos - Why do you think I didn't tell you? I knew how you'd react. What I've done you can't forgive. That's not in your nature. Well, you accept it.

DM - Accept what? That a friend I trusted with my life slaughtered innocent people for what, a few head of cattle? What are you going to tell me, Methos? That's how the world was?

Methos - No. The world was how we made it.

<DM - No. The world was how you chose to make it. How you chose to slaughter her people and burn her village. CUT

Methos - And I chose to take her prisoner.

DM - And?>

Methos - There's more.

Flashback - The Bronze Age - Horsemen's camp 10

[Super: The Bronze Age]

Kronos - [herding newly captured slaves into Horsemen's camp] Move! Come on!

Silas - Keep moving!

Kronos - Another day well spent, Methos? Come, let's celebrate. Divide our bounty.

Methos - You can have my share. I'm tired. [leads his horse toward his tent. Kronos frowns, watching him.]

Silas - [to slave girl] Come on, you dog.

[Methos leads his horse to hitching post. Kronos watches him suspisiously. In tent, camera pans down from Cassandra's face to wine jug and cup in her hands. 10 Cassandra finishes pouring wine into cup, sets jug down. Methos enters tent. Cassandra hands him cup of wine.]

Methos - Mmm... That's good.

Cass - I cooled it in the river for you. You rode far. [picks up a cloth and begins wiping dust from Methos' hands & face]

Methos - Yes.

Kronos - [enters tent] My compliments, brother. You've taught her well in everything, I see. CUT [takes a piece of fruit from a bowl] And it seems she keeps the best fruit for you.

Methos - It's no different from the rest.

Kronos - Maybe it just tastes better in here. You've made quite a prize of her, haven't you?

Methos - She's no different from the others.

Kronos - Except you seem to prefer her to all others. Why is that? Have you grown attached?

Methos - No.

Kronos - Good. I didn't think you'd make a mistake like that, brother. Because now it's time to share the spoils of war. [grabs Cassandra]

Cass - No!

Kronos - Ah, you've left some spirit in her, brother. I like that! After I finish, maybe I'll let Caspian have her. [drags her out of tent]

Cass - No! Methos, please! No! Methos, please! Methos!

[Methos picks up a piece of fruit, ignoring her cries.]

Kronos - [offscreen] Come on!

Cass - [offscreen] Methos!

Kronos - [offscreen] Get in there!

Flashback - The Bronze Age - Kronos' tent, night 10

CUT

<Cass - No! I'd rather die! [Kronos drags her to her feet.] No! No more! No more! Please don't hurt me! [begins to pleasure Kronos]>

Kronos - Aah... Maybe I won't give you to Caspian after all.

[Cassandra grabs knife & stabs Kronos in the stomach, runs from the tent as Kronos yells.]

Methos - [voice-over] I could have stopped her, but I didn't.

[Cassandra runs away from the camp, into the darkness.]

Elysium Church cemetery, night 11

Methos - She escaped across the wilderness, and she must have died a dozen times from heat and thirst before she found a village that would take her in. And I bet it was worth it just to get away from us.

DM - So what are you doing with Kronos now?

Methos - Same as always -- trying to survive. And if you want Cassandra to live, you'll get her as far away from here as you can.

DM - [scoffs] What, and let Kronos go?

Methos - You don't have a choice, MacLeod. You can't stop him. I can't stop him. Nobody can!

DM - [sarcastically] Yeah, four guys on horseback are gonna rule the world.

Methos - The world doesn't change. Not in five hundred years. Not in five thousand. It's only the details that change. Kronos didn't torch those villages for a few coins. He torched them to watch them burn. And now he'll have a nuclear bomb or a planeload of Napalm, but the effect will be the same -- the world living in fear of the Horsemen.

DM - You expect me just to let that happen? 11 You should know me better than that.

Methos - CUT I came to warn you. The first step towards Kronos' brave new world will happen tonight.

DM - Where? When?

<Methos - CUT In a fountain at the Place des Quinconces.>

DM - You set a bomb?

Methos - Do you know anything about Ebola, MacLeod? Well, there are worse things in the world... if you look. And Kronos looked. He's bred a virus. No cure. It's very exotic. He's got cages of monkeys he's been testing it on. He's got enough to destroy half of Europe. Now, a little bit in a fountain will only kill a few. But it's a start.

DM - The water supply's next.

Methos - Bright boy.

DM - Let's go.

Methos - Oh, no, no. If I go up against him, I lose.

DM - Going with the winner? So why are you here, Methos? What game are you playing?

Methos - It's in the bottom fountain just above the water line. White, then black, then red.

DM - Don't do this. You have a choice.

Methos - And you have... [glances at his watch] ...twenty-four minutes.

[DM leaves cemetery.]

Hotel room 7

Cass - [senses 'buzz'] Duncan, what took you so long? [opens door, revealing the rest of the Horsemen]

Kronos - I'm afraid Duncan is otherwise engaged. [off Cassandra's reaction] Am I wrong? Don't I owe you something? Too bad you didn't know you had to take my head to kill me.

Cass - I'll take it now.

Kronos - [pulls out knife from flashback] I've waited a long time to give this back to you. 12

La Place des Quinconces 12

[Super: LA PLACE DES QUINCONCES]

DM - Get out of here! There's a bomb! Go! [jumps into the fountain and spots the bomb]

Methos - [voice-over] White, then black, then red.

[DM cuts the wires, the timer stops, a hissing begins... and the fountain turns on.]

ACT THREE

Kronos' hideout 6

Kronos - Your bomb didn't go off. Not much of a plan, was it?

Methos - Well, I'll think of better.

Kronos - I'm sure you will. Otherwise I'm going to have to improvise. [Methos looks down, doesn't respond. Kronos waves chicken bone at him.] 13 By the way, where were you?

Methos - I was just--

Kronos - Warning your friend. You didn't really think I wouldn't know you'd tell MacLeod, did you?

Methos - It's not like you think it is.

Kronos - Ah, it's exactly like I think. My dearest brother, that's what makes you my perfect right arm -- we think alike. We always have.

Methos - [laughs] I doubt that, Kronos. No one thinks quite like you.

Kronos - [chuckles] Spoken like a true scholar. [holds up a remote control] Look at this. All I have to do... is punch in a few numbers... and a small vial explodes in the reservoir above Bordeaux. And then... well, you know what happens next, don't you? We all have our own little plans. I'm sure you won't disappoint me. Come with me. I have something else to show you. [leads Methos to Cassandra's cage] She was asking about you. <You knew exactly what you were doing when you sent MacLeod to that fountain, didn't you? So I did what you expected. I went and got Cassandra while she was unprotected. That was the plan, wasn't it? [Methos nods.] You see, I know you better than you know yourself. CUT

Methos - Which is why the plan was perfect.

Kronos - You're plans always are.> I wonder what your friend MacLeod thinks of you now, though.

Methos - Think I care?

Kronos - You should. You lured him away. When he comes back, he finds that someone's stolen his woman -- I mean, if that... if that was me, I... I'd want you dead.

<Methos - Well, then, we should prepare for MacLeod to come here. CUT

Kronos - Already thought of that.>

Methos - Did you send Caspian or Silas?

Kronos - Both. [looks at Methos a moment, then leaves]

Bordeaux street, night 14

[DM walks around corner of building, down sidewalk, starts to cross street. 14 As he walks across the street, he senses 'buzz'.]

Silas - Welcome home, boy.

[DM senses second 'buzz' as Caspian approaches from opposite direction.]

Silas - You kill one of us, the other takes your head while you're down.

Caspian - IF you kill one of us. [They follow DM toward the bridge.] Just like the old times.

Silas - Take the bridge.15

Establishing shot: Bridge, night 16

Bridge, night 16

Caspian - [follows DM onto bridge] It's been a long time, Highlander. You're gonna taste good.

DM - Yeah, well, you're gonna go hungry.

[DM & Caspian fight.]

DM - Two can play at that game.

[Caspian gives him the finger. Fight continues. Silas stands nearby, watching. DM beheads Caspian, jumps off bridge into river as Quickening begins.]

Silas - Damn you. [picks up Caspian's sword, leaves bridge]

ACT FOUR

Kronos' hideout - by Cassandra's cage 6

Methos - You should eat. [Cassandra kicks the food away.] This is familiar.

Cass - I'm not your sorry little slave anymore. I know what I am now. What you are. You may have fooled MacLeod, but you never fooled me.

Methos - I wasn't trying to fool anyone.

Cass - If MacLeod knew what you really are, he'd have taken your head long ago.

Methos - Well, he had his chance. He didn't. It wasn't all bad when we were together.

Cass - I only served you because you forced me.

Methos - [shakes his head] Don't hate yourself. Stockholm Syndrome. It's like Patty Hearst. Hostages come to rely on their captors for food and for approval. Then they fall in love.

Cass - [laughs incredulously] I never loved you.

Methos - You thought you did. You thought I would protect you. You forgot what I was.

<Cass - CUT I forgot nothing! I'll take your head with my bare hands! You, then Kronos!>

Methos - I have seen what happens to people that go up against him. If we want to survive... we will keep him happy.

Cass - I didn't do it then, and I won't now. I'd rather die.

Methos - Well, then, you'll die. And you can forget about MacLeod. MacLeod is dead.

Bordeaux street 17

DM - [approaches man locking up a pet shop] Ah, monsieur. If I wanted to import a hundred monkeys, who would I talk to?

<Man - This is a pet shop, monsieur, not a circus.> 15 CUT

Kronos' hideout 6

Kronos - He killed Caspian and you just let him get away?

Silas - I scoured the river. I searched for hours. CUT

Kronos - Never again will we be four.

Silas - I'll go back out again.

Kronos - No. No. You come with me.

Kronos' hideout - Cassandra's cage 6

Kronos - If MacLeod even gets close, kill her.

Cass - He's alive?

Kronos - Not for long!

Cass - [to Methos] You failed.

Kronos - [to Methos] Come with me, my clever friend. You and I are going to poison a city.

[Silas starts sharpening his axe as Kronos & Methos leave.]

Kronos' hideout 6

[Kronos & Methos enter main room, sense 'buzz'.]

DM - The Three Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Doesn't exactly have the same ring, now, does it, Kronos? What are you gonna do now?

Kronos - You're not going to be around long enough to find out.

DM - Oh. We'll see about that.

Kronos - Think of Cassandra. Lay down your sword, and she lives. Fight and win -- or lose -- she dies. <Come on, MacLeod, your life for hers, what do you say? CUT

DM - I think she'd rather be dead.

Kronos - Your call.

DM - [to Methos] You set me up.> 16

Kronos - [to Methos] Tell Silas to finish her. And let her know it was MacLeod's decision.

DM - Methos, don't do this!

Methos - Like you said, I go with the winner. [leaves room]

CUT

[DM & Kronos begin to fight.]

Kronos' hideout - Cassandra's cage 6

Silas - MacLeod's here?

Methos - Yes.

[Silas pulls Cassandra out of the cage. She screams. Silas raises his axe to kill her. Methos blocks it with his sword.]

Silas - You're challenging me... for the girl's head? Take it. She's yours, brother.

Methos - I am not your brother.

Silas - How can you do this? How can you go against what you are?

Methos - You don't know anything about me.

[Silas & Methos begin to fight.]

Kronos' hideout - Kronos' lab 6

Kronos - [over the sound of monkeys screeching] Not bad... but not good enough.

DM - There's more.

Kronos - I'm sure there is, knowing that you've just killed your woman. Maybe you'll meet again in the afterlife.

[Fight continues.]

<Kronos' hideout - corridors 6 CUT

[The fights continue in different areas of the submarine base. Methos evades Silas' axe as they move down a hallway.]

Silas - Traitor!

Kronos' hideout - submarine bay 6

[All four immortals end up fighting in the same area.]

Kronos - [sees Methos battling Silas] Methos. [All four Immortals stop fighting for a moment, look at each other.]

Silas - [to Methos] Come on! [They begin fighting again.]

Kronos - You still don't understand, do you, MacLeod? I am the end of time!>

DM - You're history.

[DM & Kronos begin fighting again. DM takes Kronos' head. Methos takes Silas' head.]

[The Double Quickening occurs... fodder for many a fanfiction tale.]

Methos - [cries out in anguish] I killed Silas! I LIKED Silas!

Cass - [runs out & picks up Silas's axe] And now I'm supposed to forgive you?

DM - Cassandra!

Cass - You want him to live?!

DM - Yes. I want him to live. [She raises the axe.] Cassandra, I want him to live!

[Methos sobs. Cassandra drops the axe & leaves. Camera backs away as Methos continues to cry, far down the submarine bay. 17]

TAG

Elysium Church cemetery, morning 11

DM - But you had to know Kronos would come for you one day.

Methos - I tried not to think about it.

DM - You could have killed him. Why didn't you.

Methos - I wanted to. But we were brothers... in arms, in blood, in everything except birth, and if I judged him worthy to die, then I judged myself the same way. And I wanted to live. I still do.

DM - Kronos was right. You set the whole thing up, didn't you?

Methos - What do you mean?

DM - You knew he'd come after Cassandra. And you let him because you knew I'd come after her. You couldn't kill him, but you hoped I could.

Methos - Maybe.

DM - Maybe. Methos... what about Cassandra?

Methos - One of a thousand regrets, MacLeod. One of a thousand regrets.
