REINHARDT - Well, MacLeod, I think I orchestrated this rather nicely. Tell me, how does it feel to kill an innocent young woman?

MacLEOD - Where's Richie?

REINHARDT - In my car. If you win he'll live.

MacLEOD - Why all this? Why not just challenge me?

REINHARDT - It's all part of the game . . . [beat] Your scruples and boring sentimentality were always your weakest traits. Fortunately, I'm not burdened by such things. Tell me, is the guilt overwhelming? It must be . . . [beat] Yes, I think I'll take you this time.

MacLEOD - You'd sacrifice a woman who loved you that much?

REINHARDT - Women are interchangeable. I told you that a century ago.

[They begin to fight, then:]

REBECCA - [offscreen] You son of a bitch. I loved you.

REINHARDT - And you will again.

REBECCA - Never . . .

REINHARDT - [to DM] How fickle women are.

REBECCA - Everything between us was a lie.

REINHARDT - Not a lie, my dear. A convenience.

[Rebecca goes for him, he knocks her unconscious, and DM blocks his sword before he can strike again.]

REINHARDT - You really do care for them.

MacLEOD - This will be our last fight, Reinhardt.

REINHARDT - For once we agree on something.
