Eurominutes: The full version of this episode runs 48 minutes, but for the domestic (US) market, this was cut shorter for commercials. "Eurominutes" are those 4-5 minutes that European fans got to see but US fans missed out on when the episodes originally aired. (Subsequent reruns on USANetwork and SciFi/Syfy may or may not adhere to the original domestic cut.) Huge thanks to Gillian Horvath for providing the tape of the official domestic cut of this episode, as it was released by the studio for the US stations.

~Official Eurominutes are bolded.
~Reruns on USA Network* (1998) & SciFi channel (2000) match the official cut.
~Rerun on SciFi channel (2009) matches the official cut, with two exceptions.

* Special thanks to Debra Lindsay for the USA Network tape.

[Voice-over by Joe Dawson]
He is Immortal, born in the highlands of Scotland four hundred years ago. He is not alone. There are others like him -- some good, some evil. For centuries, he has battled the forces of darkness, with holy ground his only refuge. He cannot die, unless you take his head, and with it his power. In the end, there can be only one. He is Duncan MacLeod... the Highlander.

OPENING CREDITS

TEASER

Establishing shot: Dojo 1

[Raincoast Realty "For Sale" sign has "SOLD" across it.]

Inside dojo 0

Charlie - Hey, MacLeod, you the new owner?

DM - That's right.

Charlie - Why'd you buy this place?

DM - Because it was for sale.

Charlie - Well, I'll just pack up my office, all right?

DM - I wanted you to run it for me.

Charlie - Do I get a raise?

DM - Don't push it, Charlie.

Man - [offscreen] Hey, Charlie, there's no hot water again!

Charlie - [to DM] A new heater is going to cost you four-fifty. [to man] I'm coming. [leaves as RR approaches]

RR - [carrying cardboard box] Hey, Mac, you hungry? I'm hungry.

DM - Oh, what's new?

RR - Hey, come on. We got to eat. Let's go. I'm buying.

DM - All right.

Outside British Consulate 2

[A dark sedan pulls up to curb in front of consulate. Inside are three men and a woman. A second dark sedan parks in front of the first. The driver (Guard) gets out and stands by the consulate entrance.]

Tommy - [in front passenger seat of first sedan, watching consulate entrance] On schedule?

Annie - [in back seat] Dead on schedule.

Street near Consulate 2

Customer - [in background] No relish.

RR - Mmm, that's sweet. [takes hot dog from vendor] Thanks, Rico. Take care. [takes bite of hot dog] Mmm. Rico's chilidogs -- ain't nothing on earth like them.

DM - It's a good thing you're one of us. You might actually recover from that stuff.

RR - [holds dog out to DM. DM shakes his head.] You sure?

DM - Yeah.

RR - I remember Tessa loved these things. [beat] Mac, I'm sorry. I didn't mean anything.

DM - She was part of our lives, Richie. Never pretend she wasn't.

RR - I don't. I keep waking up every morning...

DM - Expecting her to be there?

RR - Yeah.

DM - Get used to it. It won't be the last time it happens to you.

RR - When does it start getting easier?

DM - [sighs] It doesn't.

Outside British Consulate 2

[Tommy hands Annie a gun. Next to her, Mick screws a silencer on his own gun.]

Annie - Right. He'll be out any minute now.

Street near Consulate 2

RR - [walking along sidewalk] I keep waiting to feel different, like somebody's going to tell me how to be, what to do.

DM - What were you expecting, a set of instructions?

RR - Well, Mac, even Superman had--

DM - You're not Superman, Richie.

[Both stop walking as they sense 'buzz'.]

RR - There's an Immortal nearby. I can feel it.

Outside British Consulate 2

Annie - Smile, you fat bastard. [watches Ambassador and a woman exit building]

Guard - Good morning, Ambassador.

Ambassador - Yes, it is a good morning. [to woman] Ah, please... I think the first meeting--

[Mick gets out of the car, walks toward Ambassador, raises his gun. DM sees gun, grabs Mick's arm and disarms him.]

Annie - [watches Mick struggle with DM] Tommy, take the ambassador.

[Tommy gets out of car with gun. DM is still fighting with Mick.]

RR - [blocks Tommy's path] Excuse me, mister. [holds up hot dog] You a mustard and kraut kinda guy? Personally, I like chili cheese. [throws hot dog at Tommy, then wrestles briefly with him, knocking him off his feet]

[Annie, seeing that Tommy is down, runs forward with semi-automatic. RR grabs at her gun and bullets spray wildly.]

Annie - No! [drops gun] No! [falls by Tommy's side] No, Tommy! No! [as Neal pulls IRA group's car forward] Taigh solais. Taigh solais!

Neal - Come on! Come on, hurry!

[Annie grabs Tommy's gun, aims at RR. DM runs over and prevents her from shooting. Mick runs to car, gets in passenger side and car speeds away. DM & Annie share a look of recognition as police cars pull up.]

Police - Out of the way, please. Excuse me. [cuff Annie]

Guard - Mr. Ambassador, are you okay, sir?

Ambassador - Yes, thank you.

Annie - [looks over her shoulder at RR] You're a dead man.

[DM bends, picks up gold ring laying on sidewalk, looks at it.] CUT

RR - [to DM] She strike you as the sincere type? [off DM's look] I was afraid of that.

ACT ONE

Establishing shot: Dojo 1

Inside dojo 0

RR - I was staring right down the barrel of that creep's gun. I can't believe it! Mac, right down the barrel, and I didn't even blink. Is that how it feels every time? [enters elevator with DM]

DM - No... [closes gate] Only when you're a damn fool.

RR - [as elevator rises] What's eating you?

DM - That was a Mac-10, Richie. Forty-five rounds every second and a half. Do you know how many people could have been killed?

RR - Yeah, but nobody was.

DM - Because you got lucky. What if she'd hit you?

RR - Mac, I can't die.

DM - [lifts gate, enters loft] That's right. You take fifty slugs in the chest and you survive. How do you explain that? As it was, a man died. And he's not coming back.

RR - He deserved it.

DM - Did he? Did you have a good look at his soul? You'd better start learning the Game, and I mean now.

RR - Fine. You teach me.

[later, empty dojo]

DM - [as RR lands on mat] Come on, get up! Get up! [RR stands.] Get off the mat. [RR tries to hit DM. DM blocks him.] Try it again. [RR tries again. DM takes him down again.]

RR - Aah.

DM - Get up. [RR stands, attacks, ends up on mat again.] Come on! Get up! [RR stands.] And again. Come here. [throws RR onto mat multiple times] Get up. [throws RR again] Come on. [RR tries to kick DM, ends up on his butt.] Come on. Try and take me. [RR yells, charges. DM throws RR again, leans down.] You're gonna have to do better than that. Come on. Once again. [as RR stands] At least you got the yell right.

RR - [walks away] No more. I'm finished.

DM - Finished? What are you doing off the mat without your shoes? Go on! [kicks shoes toward RR] Get your shoes! You haven't even started to learn!

RR - Learn what? Fifty ways to land on my head? What are you doing this to me for? What the hell did I do?

DM - [to himself] What did he do? What did he do? [to RR] She's coming for you, Richie, and she's only the first. You've got to be good. You've got to be ready.

RR - Aw, Mac, killing me is not going to make me ready.

DM - Isn't it?

RR - You know what I think? This isn't about me or her. It's about Tessa.

DM - Tessa's got nothing to do with this.

RR - Bull, Mac. You can't get past it. I know. You've seen a lot of people die, but you had to be the hero. You sent us out to the car that night. You could've been there.

DM - Let it go, Richie.

RR - No. You look me in the eye and you tell me you don't blame yourself for her death.

DM - I'm trying to protect you from Annie Devlin!

RR - Annie Devlin's in jail. She can't hurt me! I'll see you around.

[DM watches RR enter locker room, then picks up Tommy's ring and looks at it.]

Flashback - Ireland, 1919 - safe house, night 3

Annie - But you can fight, MacLeod... better than any man I've ever seen. With you on our side--

DM - I'm sorry, Annie. You put yourselves in danger for no reason.

Annie - Damn it, how can you say no?

DM - Because this isn't my fight or yours.

Annie - Kerry's the man I love. His fight is my fight, and it should be yours. How can you turn away?

DM - Experience. I know how these things end.

Annie - It'll end in freedom.

DM - No. It'll end in death -- for some of you, maybe. Maybe for some of them. But mainly for the women and children who get in the way.

Annie - Damn your stubborn hide, MacLeod. Well, at least have a drink with us. [pours] Right. To the cause?

DM - [laughs] No, Annie. To happiness.

Annie - [looks at Kerry] Kerry. [raises glass. Gunshot, fired through window, hits Kerry.]

DM - Come on.

Annie - [holding onto Kerry's body] No.

DM - Come on. Come on! [Annie removes ring from Kerry's finger, they crawl toward the door.] Go!

Flashback - Ireland, 1919 - rocky coast, next morning 4

Annie - I can't run anymore.

DM - That's okay. I think we lost them.

Annie - How much farther?

DM - It's just over there. I'm sorry about Kerry.

Annie - Don't worry. He'll have his revenge.

DM - Come on. [crosses rocky shoreline 1 to small rowboat] Come on.

Annie - No, MacLeod, you go on.

DM - Annie, you can't kill them all.

Annie - I can try. Oh, why don't you stay? It'll be a beautiful war.

DM - War's never beautiful, Annie. Leave with me. This will never end.

Annie - It will when we win. Or when there's no one left alive to fight.

DM - [gets in boat] Good-bye, Annie. [rows away]

Dojo 0

(resume previous scene)

[RR, dressed in street clothes, exits locker room, picks up backpack.]

DM - Where are you going?

RR - My place, the zoo -- anywhere there's no mat for you to dump me on.

DM - If you come in second to Annie, you'll die... forever.

RR - I'll take my chances. [leaves]

Establishing shot: Federal building 2

Federal building interrogation room 5

O'Hara - We know all about you and your pals. You're an outlaw, even to your own. So save yourself fifty years' hard time, and tell us where your people are.

Annie - Go to hell.

O'Hara - Oh, that's original. So what's your real name, missy? Your types have been using Annie Devlin for seventy-five years.

Annie - I'm well-preserved.

O'Hara - You're a disgrace to all of us, is what you are.

<Annie - And you're a pig who cares more about his own fat arse than his people. CUT

O'Hara - Hey, don't talk about my own people. How many of my people have you murdered?>

Annie - Only the traitors.

O'Hara - You'll be eighty years old and all used up before you see daylight again.

Annie - Oh, I think I'll be seeing it sooner than that.

O'Hara - Not unless you give us something damn interesting.

Annie - You want something interesting?

O'Hara - For once in your life, do the right thing.

[Annie grabs O'Hara, knees him in the groin, and crashes through the window, falling multiple stories to the ground below. 2]

Rawls - [looks out window at Annie's body] Why? [On pavement below, onlookers rush to Annie's body.] 2

Establishing shot: Dojo 2 1

Loft 0

<[DM gazes at photo of himself and Tessa, Tommy's ring in his hand. CUT Charlie exits elevator and DM quickly puts items in jewelry box.]>

Charlie - I don't know what it is, but it ain't doing you any good looking at it.

DM - You want something?

CUT

Charlie - Look, MacLeod, I've seen men chewed up before.

DM - Let me worry about that.

Charlie - Yeah, well, it ain't just you, man. It's Richie. Look, I know you're my boss, and maybe it's none of my business--

DM - You're right. It's not.

Charlie - No. Yeah, but I'm going to tell you anyway. You gotta back off, man. You're laying into the kid too hard.

DM - Has to be done.

Charlie - Why? Because of that terrorist woman? Well, if that's what it is, you can stop worrying.

DM - Why?

Charlie - It's all over the news -- she took a header from the tenth floor of the federal building. She's dead, man.

Morgue 6

[Sign on wall reads: 'Please Register Autopsied Cadavers With City Coroners Office'.
Medical examiner puts on pair of latex gloves, unzips Annie's body bag. Annie grabs him by the throat and knocks him out. She grabs a white lab coat to wear and leaves the morgue.]

ACT TWO

Establishing shot: Dojo 1

Dojo 0

[Close on RR lying on bench. He lifts weights up, 3 lowers them, repeats twice more. Camera starts to pan back to reveal dojo around him as he continues reps. A]

DM - How's it going?

RR - [sets weights down] Mac, hey, um... I, uh, thought I'd work out a little.

DM - Good.

RR - Uh, listen... you were right.

DM - [at same time] I was wrong.

RR - Mac, I was wrong about what I said about Tessa. I'm sorry.

DM - Nah, you were right. I've just been losing a lot of people lately. I didn't want to lose you, too.

RR - Well, makes two of us. So, listen, tough guy... [punches DM in shoulder playfully] Want to beat the hell out of me again?

DM - I'll take it a little easier on you this time.

RR - Good.

DM - Richie, look, um... Annie's escaped.

RR - Well, don't look so bummed. She'll be so busy hiding from the cops, she won't have time to come after me.

DM - The cops think she's dead.

RR - Then they won't be after her? [DM shakes his head.] But she will be after me.

DM - Yeah.

<Hillside 7 CUT

DM - Okay. Open your legs out in this stance here. [stands with legs apart and knees bent. RR copies him.] Use your {muscles}. [slaps inner thigh] Sit down there. 4 Okay. Take the blade in your right hand... 'into an en garde position. [RR continues to copy his moves.]' (a different camera angle is used in the domestic version) Bend your legs. Now go for a parry, here. [raises katana blade toward left shoulder, then over his head and behind him] You're going to cut forward. Cut. [brings blade around and down] Cut. [RR repeats the move.] Parry. [holds blade over his head behind his right shoulder] Cut. [brings blade around and down from the other direction] Cut. [RR repeats the move.] Lunge. [lunges forward with the left leg, blade extended. RR lunges.] Good, now stay there. Stay there, don't move. [moves closer to RR] When you have your weight there... [steps on back of RR's extended leg, bending the knee] {You're on the wrong foot}, being off balance. [pulls on RR's extended sword blade, moving him forward] See {how I pull you} off balance? Straighten this leg. Straighten it. Straighten it. That's good. The lunge is here. [demonstrates lunge] Good. Back again. Parry. [holds blade over his shoulder again] Cut backwards. [steps backwards as he cuts the blade forward. RR tries to repeat the move, but with his sword parry over the wrong shoulder.] The other way. [moves back into position] From here. [holds blade over left shoulder. RR holds his over his right shoulder.] Here. No, your other one. [RR switches positions.] Cut backwards. [RR does it correctly this time.]

[DM continues the lesson. RR is able to follow his moves more quickly now.]

DM - Go! [begins sequence, moving forward] Parry. [parries from left side] 5 'Cut. Parry. [parries from right side] Cut. Lunge. Good. And back. [moves backward] Parry, cut, parry, cut, lunge.6 (this sequence is moved down to 6 in the domestic cut) Now go back to your parry position. Show me your parry. [RR holds sword over his left shoulder.] 7 Okay, that's a little low. You're going to have to bring it up a little higher. Otherwise you're going to get cut. [DM reaches for RR's sword, moves his blade higher above his head.] 8 (10) Don't bring it down here, 'cause it's not going to save you. [with RR's blade too low, rests his katana against RR's neck] You'll have this happen. [raises RR's blade higher, hits it with his katana] Here. Okay?

RR - Okay.

DM - [steps away as RR tries the corrected form a few times] Same on the other side. Just covering your neck. 9

[They begin to fence, practicing the moves DM has taught RR.]

DM - That's good. Back. Good. Make sure you parry with the strong part of the blade. Attack... [swings katana and RR blocks] {...with the weaker part.} There. [RR moves his blade closer to tip of katana.] Good. And again. Same thing. 'Come on. Come on.10 (this sequence is moved up to 10 in the domestic cut) Come on, come on. Remember, it's {going to come at you anyway}. it won't just happen. 11 Low. High. Low. High. Low. High. Other side. Strokes here, here, here. Come on. Come on, come on. On the parry, you parry here. [demonstrates] Here. All right? Parry. Try it again. Same thing again. Go. You first. 12 {On your parry, you're not turning enough. Turn the blade.}

RR - Either way.

DM - Yes. Either way. (6) [They exchange a series of cuts and parries.] And reverse, go. Come on, come on. {See what you did? You also have} the low angles. [swings sword around RR's knees] {Same thing again.} 13

[The training montage ends.]

DM - Okay, I'm going to teach you Annie's favorite move. It's your best chance of stopping her. I want you to come for a lateral cut to my right shoulder. There. Now, she'll come under your blade like this, bringing it back over this way, trapping your arm, and coming around for the fatal blow. Okay? A little faster this time.

[They repeat the sequence, ending with DM's katana blade at RR's neck.]

RR - So what happens if she does something else?

DM - Good night, puppy. There is a counter to it, though. When she has you here like this, step back, okay? Ready? Go. Good. Now envelop the blade and disarm her. Then she's at your mercy. Try that again. Down from there. A little faster this time. Ready? Go!

[Queen - Princes of the Universe

Ride the moon and reach for the stars
With my soul and head held high
Got to pass the test first time
Yeah!
I know that people talk about me
I hear it every day
But I can fool around 'cause I'm right
First time. Yeah. Yeah!]

[RR and DM repeat the sequence over and over.]>

Irish pub 8

Waitress - [takes full beer glass from bartender, places it on tray] Thanks, Jake.

Mick - I never thought they'd get her. She died a martyr to the cause. To Annie. [raises his glass, clinks it with Neal's, and they drink]

Annie - [walks up behind them] Mick. Neal. I didn't know you cared.

Mick - Annie.

Annie - I thought I told you to meet me at the lighthouse.

Neal - We waited. But then we heard you were dead.

Annie - Keep it down or we will be. Do you believe everything you read?

Neal - So how the hell DID you escape?

Annie - That doesn't matter. What does is the work we have to do.

Neal - The ambassador?

Annie - Later. The kid first.

Mick - We know where we can find him.

Dojo 0

Charlie - [coaching RR, who is working out using a hanging bag] Turn your hip. Turn your hip. Both hands, one-two, one-two. Yeah, that's it. One-two. Come on. A little harder. Focus! 14 Come on! That's good. That's good. You and MacLeod work things out all right, man?

RR - Close enough. Charlie, I'm done.

Charlie - Come on. So soon?

RR - I like it here, Charlie, but I got a new bike to pick up and a friend I haven't seen in a long time.

Charlie - Well, some advice, then, Richie.

RR - Talk to me. Stance? Shoulders? What?

Charlie - Shower, man. Your friend will thank you for it.

RR - Thanks, Charlie. Catch you later.

Bike shop 9

RR - Thanks for the deal, Ron. Take it easy.

Ron - Take care, Rich.

[RR starts motorcycle and drives away from shop. Mick & Neal chase him in sedans, herd him into a warehouse.]

Warehouse 9

[RR senses 'buzz'.]

Annie - Glad you could make it. [knocks RR off his bike]

RR - What's the matter? Forget your sword? [Annie pulls her sword from behind her back.] Sorry I asked.

Annie - Don't worry. I will take your head... [drives sword point into wooden floor] But first I'm gonna hurt you.

RR - What for? Trying to save an old man's life?

Annie - We were executing an enemy.

RR - Don't flatter yourself, lady. That was murder. You were the one with the gun.

Annie - And you interfered. A good man was killed.

RR - That 'good man' was a butcher.

Annie - His name is Tommy. He was my husband. [kicks RR in the chest, knocking him down, then continues to kick him]

RR - This is nothing, lady. I've had the crap beat out of me by the best.

Annie - What's your name?

RR - Richie.

Annie - Say good-bye, Richie. [turns and walks back to her sword]

RR - [gets back on bike and kickstarts it] Good-bye, Richie. [drives around Annie and through warehouse window, landing on street outside]

ACT THREE

Empty dojo 0

[DM wanders past Charlie tightening bolts on weight bench. Charlie looks up as B DM turns, looks toward dojo entrance.]

Charlie - You still worried about him? Come on, the woman's dead.

DM - Right. [senses 'buzz']

[RR limps through dojo entrance.]

Charlie - What the hell happened to you?

RR - You were right, Charlie. Should have taken that shower.

DM - [blocks Charlie from helping RR.] No, that's all right. I'll take him.

Charlie - How'd you get here?

RR - I drove.

DM - It's all right. Adrenaline's a wonderful thing.

Charlie - We've got to have somebody look at him.

DM - Nah, he's going to be all right.

<Charlie - CUT What the hell are you talking about? We've got to get him to a hospital!>

DM - No doctor.

RR - It looks worse than it is, Charlie. Besides, I think my insurance ran out.

Charlie - Fine. Your funeral. Jeez.

Loft 0

RR - Ah! Take it easy.

DM - You'll be fine.

RR - That's very reassuring, Mac, but it still hurts.

DM - You got lucky this time, Richie.

RR - You call this lucky?

DM - Yeah. You still have your head. I know Annie. She missed you once. It won't happen again.

RR - Fine. So you speed up my training.

DM - Not me -- Charlie. [pours RR a glass of water]

RR - Charlie? What are you going to do? [takes glass] Thanks.

DM - If we wait here, it's her game. She sets the time and the place. I have to get to her first.

RR - How are you going to be able to find her, Mac? It's a big city.

DM - I don't know.

RR - Actually, didn't she say something to one of her guys after the hit at the consulate?

DM - Like what?

RR - I can't remember.

DM - Think.

RR - I can't remember. It was gibberish.

DM - Well, what did it sound like?

RR - It sounded, uh... chuck... solace. Ah, must be wrong. Sounds like a baseball player.

DM - Taigh soluis?

RR - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's it. That's it.

DM - It's Gaelic. It means "lighthouse".

Lighthouse 10

Annie - [senses 'buzz'] Go back to the car. Take a ride up the hill and wait for me.

Neal - Come again?

Annie - I said, go back to the car and take a drive.

Neal - What's wrong?

Annie - Nothing I can't handle.

Dock below lighthouse 10

DM - Are we enemies?

Annie - If it comes to it.

DM - Not by my choice.

Annie - I couldn't have beaten you before, MacLeod. But now... I think I just might.

DM - You might at that, but I guess it would be a shame to waste this. [picks up bottle of whiskey] It's Irish. A hundred years old.

Annie - Damn you, Duncan MacLeod.

DM - To happiness. [holds bottle out but doesn't let her take it] To happiness.

Annie - To the cause? All right, to happiness. [takes bottle]

Dojo 0

[RR, in a kickboxing helmet and gloves, is doing boxing exercises with Charlie.]

Charlie - Hey, I still don't believe it, man.

RR - Like I said, I'm a fast healer. Besides, it was mostly bruises. So, Charlie, how'd you get into this business, anyway?

Charlie - It was love, man. My mom was black, my daddy was Italian. Trouble is, we lived in a tough 'hood, and the "brothers" figured that I was Italian, so if they caught me, they used to do [clips RR on the side of the head] that to me, you see? And for similar reasons, the Italians figured I didn't belong, so they'd try to do this [clips him again] or, uh, even... [sweeps RR of his feet with his leg] So I got sick and tired of getting my butt kicked, if you know what I mean.

RR - Yeah, Charlie, I'm beginning to.

Charlie - So, I joined the SEALS.

RR - Travel? Huh? Meet exotic enemies?

Charlie - Hey, I learned a trade, man.

RR - Yeah, yeah, right, right. I'm sure you did. 15

Dock below lighthouse 10

Annie - Won't do you any good, you know.

DM - What won't?

Annie - Getting me drunk... acting sentimental about the old days.

DM - Why not?

Annie - Why not what?

DM - Why not get sentimental about the old days?

Annie - Because I'm still going to kill Richie.

DM - Why? It won't bring Tommy back. It won't bring anyone back. Nothing you do brings anyone back... once they're dead. Nothing.

Annie - You lost someone, too, didn't you?

DM - So we have something in common.

Dojo 0

[Charlie and RR are in Kendo outfits now, practicing with wooden swords.]

Charlie - You're not bad. A little rough around the edges, but you've got a real feel for it. Kind of reminds me of me.

RR - Thanks, Charlie. I'd say we come from similar neighborhoods.

Charlie - Ain't nothing similar about us, man.

RR - You think nobody else has problems?

Charlie - Yeah, but mine come from being unique, you know what I mean?

RR - I think I can empathize. CUT

<Charlie - Empathize. Huh!>

Dock below lighthouse 10

DM - I want to know one thing -- what did you think, that I'd come back to Dublin?

Annie - You abandoned me.

DM - I never abandoned you, Annie.

Annie - You abandoned the cause!

DM - I never had your cause!

Annie - No, you just had your own.

DM - It wasn't your cause either, Annie.

Annie - Liar!

DM - How many boys did you send to their deaths? Hmm? How many? How about Kerry and Tommy? How many more?

Annie - Damn it, MacLeod. [grabs her sword] Come on.

DM - Annie, I'm warning you.

Annie - Come on. Fight. That's it. Come on. Fight, damn it!

DM - [quietly] No.

Annie - Live forever? But I feel so dead inside. Are you dead inside, MacLeod? Are you dead, or are you alive?

[Annie reaches up and kisses DM, then pulls him down to the ground with her and removes his shirt. They continue to kiss as screen fades to black.]

ACT FOUR

[next morning]

Annie - It never happened.

DM - Funny. Seemed real enough to me.

Annie - Don't start with me, MacLeod. You know what I mean. It was an accident.

DM - Maybe we should have had that accident years ago.

Annie - We would have. Didn't you know that?

DM - If I would have joined you.

Annie - Well, it doesn't matter now. I know what I am and what I have to do.

DM - You don't have to do anything. Last night we--

Annie - Last night we were drunk.

DM - Is that all it was?

Annie - It really doesn't matter, MacLeod. It's a blood debt. You know that. Richie's life for Tommy's. I have no choice.

DM - Then neither will I. If you come after Richie, you'll have to go through me. [begins to walk away]

Annie - MacLeod? It really was a grand night. [watches DM leave]

Dojo 0

RR - You found her.

DM - By the lighthouse, yeah.

RR - So, you were gone the whole night. You fought, right?

DM - Not exactly.

RR - Not exactly? What do you mean, 'not exactly'?

DM - Look, Richie, it's complicated. Don't ask me to explain, but she's coming for you. I want you to get out of the city until she gives up.

RR - I don't believe this. What have I been busting my butt for?

DM - To learn to survive and not get slaughtered.

RR - Not get slaughtered? Look, Mac, maybe you couldn't face her, but I can.

DM - Richie, this isn't about guts. She wants your head and I can't kill her. Don't you understand?

RR - I understand that I'm supposed to face an Immortal and you want me to cut out and run.

DM - I want you to live.

Charlie - Hey, Richie, you training today or what, man?

RR - Yeah, yeah, Charlie. I'll be there in one second. [to DM] All right, I'll go.

DM - I'll tell Charlie we're leaving.

RR - No, that's okay. I'll do it myself.

[DM gets on elevater, heads up to loft to grab his bag. RR goes into dojo office.]

[later]

DM - [exits elevator, looks around] Charlie, where's Richie?

Charlie - He just left.

DM - Where did he go?

Charlie - I don't know. He just blew past me, all right?

DM - [sees sword missing from wall rack in office] Damn.

Charlie - MacLeod? MacLeod, what the hell's going on?

DM - Watch my bag. [tosses duffle at Charlie and leaves]

Lighthouse 10

Annie - Where's MacLeod?

RR - He's not here. It's just you and me.

Annie - Good. Then you've saved me a lot of trouble.

RR - Maybe not.

[They begin to swordfight.]

Annie - Somebody's been teaching you.

RR - You can learn a lot from watching television.

Annie - Tommy wasn't afraid to die. Are you?

RR - Damn right. [Annie shoves him backwards. 16 He stumbles down the steps below the lighthouse & she follows. More fighting.] Mostly I'm just pissed.

Annie - So am I!

[Fight continues.] 17

Annie - You're better than I thought.

RR - I'm not done yet!

Annie - Wrong! [pushes RR over railing and jumps down after him]

[Fight continues. 18 DM arrives and watches from above. Finally, Annie uses her signature move against RR and he counters, like DM taught him.]

Annie - [with RR's sword at her neck] Do it. Do it! I would.

RR - [readies sword to swing, but then raises both arms and yells] Noo!

Annie - You're a fool, you know. I'll come for you.

DM - No, you won't.

Annie - He killed Tommy.

DM - And he gave you your life in return. [hands Tommy's ring to Annie] This has to end, Annie.

TAG

<Loft 0 CUT

DM - How are you doing?

RR - Fine. Perfect. I'm alive, aren't I?

DM - You don't look too happy about it.

RR - I could have killed her, Mac. I mean, that's what I'm supposed to do, right?

DM - Sometimes.

RR - I couldn't do it. I thought I could, but I couldn't. Maybe I'm just not cut out for this.

DM - You're still who you are, Richie. You don't change when you become Immortal. You just live longer. Hopefully.

RR - Oh, boy. I'd say I've got a lot to learn.

DM - You still have time. [opens sword case, removes clamshell rapier and offers it to RR] Take good care of it. [RR accepts sword.] Live with it. Make it part of you. Might be the only friend you have.>
